'THE SENTINEL YEARLING'
Sketch produced in water-based oil colour on canvas whilst demonstrating in the Art Market Marquee at Marwell International Wildlife Art Society 2011 Exhibition (in conjunction with the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year).
As I walked around the Winchester chalk downs, I noticed the early autumn vegetation. So asked permission to pick some from landowners for demonstration purposes, and found an old photograph of a Yearling Roe Deer in my caravan. I also found a tiny magazine picture of a goldfinch in an advert (which I shall refine once at home in the studio, using my own many pictures of goldfinches that have visited my little wild garden. I have not used water-based oils before, so this was something new for me. Someone almost offered to buy the painting as a sketch!!
